(10 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis) Jerusalem, Dead Sea, Galilee, Tel Aviv
This private tour of Israel is perfect for families wanting to experience together the best of Israel’s rich history, diverse culture and tremendous natural beauty. Accommodation is at Israel's leading luxury hotels and all touring is private.
Begin in Jerusalem. Built entirely from white stone, Jerusalem glows and changes from white to pink to rose to gold with the changing of the light. Your expert private guide will bring the beautiful city and its incredible, multi-layered history alive. Of immeasurable religious, historic and archaeological importance, the entire Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Temple Mount, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Via Dolorosa and the Western Wall, including the Western Wall tunnels. Explore the narrow streets, twisting alleyways and airy plazas, ancient synagogues and churches, and bazaars and boutiques of the Old City’s Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Armenian quarters. Touring will be customized to your family’s interests. Perhaps visit the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo, the Ein Yael Living Museum or the Chagall Windows at Hadassah Hospital, or enjoy a guided walk through the ancient tunnel that once delivered the city’s water. Tour the Mount of Olives and walk along the Old City ramparts or the Haas Promenade, with its iconic view over the city. Also visit the Mahane Yehuda Market, which is a great place to sample falafel and chocolate rugelach. Other options include visiting the Israel Museum to see the Dead Sea scrolls, planting a tree, participating in an archaeological dig, hiking in the Judean Hills, watching a sound & light show at the Tower of David, enjoying the Time Elevator Jerusalem, or visiting caves in the Bet Guvrin-Maresha National Park.
One day, enjoy a private excursion to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. En route, visit Masada, a UNESCO-listed 2000-year-old mountaintop fortress, or choose to hike in the lush Ein Gedi oasis. Visit a beach on the Dead Sea and, if desired, swim in the salt and mineral-laden water, famous for its buoyancy and therapeutic qualities.
Spend the next two nights in the Galilee region. Enjoy private touring around the Sea of Galilee (also known as Lake Tiberias and Lake Kinneret), an area renowned for its beautiful landscapes and proximity to important historical and biblical sites. While in the area, visit a local kibbutz and, if desired, stop at Gan Hashelosha National Park for a dip in swimming holes fed by natural hot springs. You may choose to visit the ruins at Beit Shean, first settled 7,000 years ago. Alternatively, take a private four-wheel drive excursion into the Golan Heights, a beautiful region of springs, waterfalls and historic ruins. Options include hiking, rappelling, visiting the Crusader-era Nimrod’s Castle, exploring the streams and forests of the Tel Dan Nature Reserve or kayaking on the Jordan River.
Conclude your tour in Tel Aviv, a vibrant city on the Mediterranean Sea coast. En route, visit the Roman ruins of Caesarea, one of Israel’s major archaeological sites. Also visit the ancient seaside town of Acre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Another option is to tour a Druze village to learn about their traditional way of life. Families with younger children might like to visit Kfar Kedem, a re-creation of 2,000-year-old Galilean town, where you can learn to make pita bread or ride in a donkey caravan.
While in Tel Aviv, enjoy private touring that includes Old Jaffa, markets, UNESCO-listed Bauhaus architecture, the Eretz Israel Museum and the Diaspora Museum. If desired, we can arrange a tour of the fascinating Ayalon Institute, a kibbutz that hid a secret underground ammunition factory. Also enjoy free time to relax on the beach in Tel Aviv or shop in the city’s markets and leisure districts.
Upon request, Artisans of Leisure can arrange additional activities, such as meeting with a geo-political expert, soft-adventure activities, family cooking classes, Sabbath dinner in an Israeli home and other special religious experiences.
