Begin in dynamic Saigon, the country’s bustling commercial center. With your own expert guide, take a cyclo ride around town, visit a Children's Institute, and spend an afternoon at Dam Sen Park, Saigon’s leading theme park and a favorite family destination. If desired, take a half-day excursion to the countryside to see the Cu Chi Tunnels.
From Saigon, take an overnight excursion to the Mekong Delta. There, cruise by private sampan (traditional boat) through the vast network of canals, visiting colorful floating markets and rural villages.
Next, fly to atmospheric Hoi An, a UNESCO-listed riverfront town with colorful historic homes, charming cafes, and bustling silk and fish markets. With your guide, explore the beautiful backstreets and learn about the history of Hoi An during visits to private homes. Also visit a local farm to learn about Vietnamese food and ingredients, and tour another village that makes Hoi An's colorful paper lanterns. Later, stop by a rural fishing village to talk with the fisherman and learn their fishing techniques during a boat ride on the river. Nearby, also see ancient Cham sculptures and tour Buddhist cave temples in the mountains. There will also be free time to relax at your luxury beach resort.
Continue to Hanoi, Vietnam’s artistic and intellectual capital. With your guide, ride cyclos around the lake to see the city's historic French colonial architecture. Explore the fascinating Old Quarter and its hundreds of specialty shops selling silk clothing, lacquerware, embroidered linens, furniture, bamboo, cooking utensils, ceremonial objects and more. Attend an evening Water Puppet Theater performance. Visit ancient temples, learn about Vietnamese hill tribes, folk utensils and costumes in the Museum of Ethnology, and tour a local school.
