Madrid & Toledo, Cordoba, Seville, Granada, Marbella

This tour includes comprehensive private touring in Madrid and Andalusia’s most fabled cities—Seville, Cordoba and Granada.

Begin in Madrid, the Spanish capital known for its elegant squares, stately Habsburg architecture, leafy boulevards and superb museums. With your expert private guide, explore the highlights of the city. See world-renowned museums such as the Prado Museum, Reina Sofia, CaixaForum, and/or the Thyssen-Bornemisza. Tour the majestic Royal Palace. Stroll through the exclusive shopping and residential districts. Also visit historic squares and lively markets, including the gourmet San Miguel Market. Upon request, additional experiences can be arranged such as tickets to soccer games and bullfights, preferred seats at Zarzuela performances, cooking lessons, touring with an art expert, visits to house-museums like Museo Cerralbo or Museo Sorolla, garden tours, shopping excursions, and touring of contemporary art and architecture sites.

One day, enjoy a private excursion to Toledo. Known as the city of three cultures, Toledo once flourished as a unique center where Jews, Muslims and Christians lived in harmony. Accordingly, this mix of cultures is reflected in the city’s architecture and layout. Toledo was also home to the painter known as El Greco, and many of his paintings still remain here—including his masterpiece, The Burial of Count Orgaz. See this and other works by El Greco during private touring. Also explore the city’s splendid medieval center, including the elaborate cathedral and the old Jewish quarter.

Next, take the high-speed train to Cordoba, a capital under the Romans and the Moors. During private touring, explore the highlights of the UNESCO-listed city center, such as the incredible Cathedral-Mosque, the ancient Roman bridge, and the narrow backstreets lined with whitewashed buildings and historic buildings in the old Jewish Quarter.

After Cordoba touring, continue to Seville, the capital of Andalusia and a city flavored as much by the sounds of flamenco and the smell of orange blossoms as by its 500-year domination by the Moors. Take an insider’s tour of this beautiful city. Explore the charming Santa Cruz neighborhood, tour the gardens and mosaic tile-covered rooms of the Reales Alcazares—a spectacular Moorish palace, see the world's largest Gothic cathedral (which contains the tomb of Christopher Columbus), browse specialty boutiques and markets, and other cultural highlights. Also enjoy a private tasting tour that visits some of Seville’s most beloved tapas bars. One evening, you may wish to attend a local flamenco performance or a bullfight at the famed bullring. If desired, additional activities can be arranged, including visits to ceramics workshops in the Triana neighborhood, carriage rides through Plaza de Espana and Maria Luisa Park, seeing contemporary architecture such as Metropol Parasol, private flamenco dance or guitar lessons, architecture tours of World Expo buildings, visits to royal horse farms, and excursions to Roman ruins or pueblos blancos (whitewashed villages).

Next, depart for Granada, one of the richest and most populated cities in Europe during Moorish rule and still one of Spain's most breathtaking cities. With your expert private guide, tour the extraordinary Alhambra—one of the highlights of Spain—a stunning Moorish castle, palace and garden complex on a hillside overlooking the town. Visit the Generalife, the summer palace and gardens of Moorish royalty. Also tour the labyrinthine streets of the Albaicin—the old Arab Quarter—and discover a world full of winding, hilly streets, Moorish fountains, and teterías (Arabic tearooms).

End your tour in Marbella, the jewel of the sun-drenched Costa del Sol. Stay at the luxurious Marbella Club Hotel, once the private residence of a prince and now one of Europe's premier beach resorts. During leisure time, enjoy the resort’s lush, sub-tropical gardens, extensive private beach club, swimming pool, thalasso spa, private golf course, riding stables and gourmet restaurant headed by a Michelin-starred chef. One day, enjoy a private excursion to Ronda, the most dramatic of Andalusia's famed whitewashed villages and a favorite of Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles. Also visit local villages and wineries. Enjoy another day at leisure at the resort, or opt to book additional private touring. Options include visiting the Pileta Caves to see ancient rock art, a day of guided hiking or biking in beautiful national parks, a private cooking class, visiting the Picasso Museum and other cultural highlights in Malaga, or a full-day excursion to Tangiers, Morocco or Gibraltar.
