This is the ultimate private luxury tour of the most interesting and exciting historical, cultural and culinary destinations in Spain. The tour features in-depth private touring with expert guides, accommodation at Spain’s most exclusive hotels and resorts, and special activities such as private art tours of top museums, wine tours at exclusive wineries, and tasting tours of our favorite tapas and pintxos bars.

Begin in Madrid, the Spanish capital known for its elegant squares, stately Habsburg architecture, leafy boulevards and superb museums. With your expert private guide, explore the highlights of the city. See world-renowned museums such as the Prado Museum, Reina Sofia, CaixaForum, and/or the Thyssen-Bornemisza. Tour the majestic Royal Palace. Stroll through the exclusive shopping and residential districts. Also visit historic squares and lively markets, including the gourmet San Miguel Market. One evening, enjoy a private “tapas tasting” tour of some of some of Madrid’s most beloved tapas bars.

One day, enjoy a private excursion to Toledo. Known as the city of three cultures, Toledo once flourished as a unique center where Jews, Muslims and Christians lived in harmony. Accordingly, this mix of cultures is reflected in the city’s architecture and layout. Toledo was also home to the painter known as El Greco, and many of his paintings still remain here—including his masterpiece, The Burial of Count Orgaz. See this and other works by El Greco during private touring. Also explore the city’s splendid medieval center, including the elaborate cathedral and the old Jewish quarter.

Spend one night in Cordoba, a capital under the Romans and the Moors. During private touring, explore the highlights of the UNESCO-listed city center, such as the incredible Cathedral-Mosque, the ancient Roman bridge, and the narrow backstreets lined with whitewashed buildings and historic buildings in the old Jewish Quarter.

Continue to Granada, one of the richest and most populated cities in Europe during Moorish rule and still one of Spain's most breathtaking cities. With your expert private guide, tour the extraordinary Alhambra—one of the highlights of Spain—a stunning Moorish castle, palace and garden complex on a hillside overlooking the town. Visit the Generalife, the summer palace and gardens of Moorish royalty. Also tour the labyrinthine streets of the Albaicin—the old Arab Quarter—and discover a world full of winding, hilly streets, Moorish fountains, and teterías (Arabic tearooms).

Next, tour Ronda, the most dramatic of Andalusia's famed whitewashed villages, en route to Seville, the capital of Andalusia and a city flavored as much by the sounds of flamenco and the smell of orange blossoms as by its 500-year domination by the Moors. Take an insider’s tour of this beautiful city. Explore the charming Santa Cruz neighborhood, tour the gardens and mosaic tile-covered rooms of the Reales Alcazares—a spectacular Moorish palace, see the world's largest Gothic cathedral (which contains the tomb of Christopher Columbus), browse specialty boutiques and markets, and other cultural highlights. One evening, you may wish to attend a local flamenco performance or a bullfight at the famed bullring.

From Seville, fly to Bilbao, one of the most architecturally progressive towns in Spain. Visit the Guggenheim Museum, a stunning building of swooping titanium curves designed by Frank Gehry. After a private tour of the museum’s art collection, perhaps enjoy dining in its Michelin-starred restaurant. Also visit other interesting architectural and cultural sites in Bilbao before transferring to La Rioja, one of the world’s most renowned winemaking regions. Spend two nights in the heart of La Rioja at the Hotel Marques de Riscal, a luxury hotel with distinctive architecture designed by Frank Gehry and a wine therapy spa offering treatments using vine and grape seed extracts. On a private day excursion, visit Laguardia, a beautiful medieval walled village with wine caves under its cobblestone streets and impressive views of the nearby hills. Tour surrounding vineyards and enjoy wine tastings at bodegas (wineries) designed by celebrated modern architects such as Santiago Calatrava and Zaha Hadid.

Spend the next two nights in San Sebastian, an elegant seaside resort near the border of France that is the gastronomic capital of the Basque Country. Tour the picturesque old town, and browse local produce and fish markets. Basque cuisine is generally considered to be Spain’s finest and on this tour you will have ample opportunity to sample the local specialties. Take a class at a private cooking club, and enjoy a private tasting of the region’s delicious pintxos—the Basque version of tapas—and Txakoli, a local, slightly sparkling white wine.

Conclude your tour in Barcelona, one of Europe's most dynamic centers of modern design and cutting-edge cuisine. Discover Gaudi’s fantastical structures such as Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, Casa Batllo or the hillside Parc Guell. Visit some of the city’s excellent museums, such as the Picasso Museum or Miro Museum. Stroll along Las Ramblas—Barcelona’s most famous boulevard—and explore the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter and La Ribera. If desired, explore the city’s shopping districts, stopping at upscale boutiques along the broad Passeig de Gracia and design shops in the stylish Born and Raval neighborhoods. Also visit the city’s leading food markets, including the Santa Caterina Market and La Boqueria Market. One day, opt for a cooking class to learn to prepare several regional Catalan dishes, considered among Spain’s best. Another day, enjoy a private excursion to interesting villages in the surrounding region, such as Girona, Besalu, Pals and Peratallada. Upon request, Artisans of Leisure can also arrange a wide range of other activities in Barcelona, such as excursions to Montserrat or the Costa Brava, private yacht charters, Jewish touring, tickets to soccer matches, hiking or biking in the nearby mountains, visiting favorite family attractions such as the Magic Fountain or Poble Espanyol, and wine tasting in the Penedes wine region.
