(10 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Athens, Delphi, Chania, Rethmymnon, Heraklion, Elounda
This comprehensive private luxury tour is ideal for anyone fascinated by ancient civilizations. It visits both Athens and Delphi, the seats of ancient Greek culture, as well as Crete, the largest of the Greek Islands and home of the industrious Minoans who built massive palaces here more than 3,500 years ago. You’ll enjoy exploring the top historic sights and yet also have time for seaside relaxation.
Begin in Athens with a private transfer to Hotel Grande Bretagne, located in the city’s ancient heart, or Arion Resort & Spa, a seaside property not far outside the city, for three nights. During flexible touring with your private guide, visit the city’s top sights, such as the ancient Agora, the Acropolis and the spectacular new Acropolis Museum. Also explore local open-air markets and the charming, taverna-lined Plaka neighborhood. Opt to continue your city touring and visit museums (such as the Benaki Museum and Goulandris Foundation) that showcase the best of Greek archaeology, history, folk art, Cycladic art, coins and jewelry) or take an optional excursion along the beautiful coast to the Temple of Poseidon.
One day, enjoy a full-day private guided excursion to Delphi, once the holiest place in Greece, to tour the hillside ruins overlooking the Gulf of Corinth.
Continue to Crete, and then a private transfer to your luxury resort in Chania on the island’s mountainous western half, for three nights. The next morning, enjoy a private tour of this beautiful city with its elegant mix of cobbled alleyways, waterfront promenades and distinctive minarets, the result of both Venetian and Turkish occupation. Stroll through Old Town and visit the spice market and Turkish bazaar. On your third day, enjoy a private tour of nearby Rethmymnon, famous for its old Venetian quarter located on a narrow peninsula dominated by a massive castle known as Fortessa. Also enjoy a visit to an olive oil producer, local wineries and nearby villages.
Next, enjoy a private guided tour of the fascinating Palace of Knossos, built by King Minos during the height of Crete’s great Minoan civilization, which lasted from 2,700 to 1450 BC. Afterward, have a look at the magnificent Bronze Age Minoan treasures on display in the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion, before your transfer to your luxury resort in Elounda for three nights.
The next morning, enjoy a half-day tour of Elounda, known for its pebble beaches and panoramic views, and Kritsa, a traditional mountain village known for its crafts and Byzantine art.
