Wine Tour of Hungary

(6 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Eger-Tokaj Wine Region, Budapest

This private luxury tour features the best of Hungary’s centuries-old winemaking traditions, as well as the highlights of Budapest. It includes tastings of unusual local varietals and private touring at leading wine estates in Hungary’s most renowned viticultural regions, as well as private cultural touring in Budapest and beautiful traditional villages.

Begin in the Eger-Tokaj Wine Region, a vast rural area that’s been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its centuries-long history of wine production. During private touring, visit local wine cellars and sample aszu, a unique noble white wine known as Hungary’s “wine of kings.” Tour the cultural highlights of Eger, such as the medieval castle, Turkish minaret and Baroque palaces, and taste the best local wines such as Egri Bikaver at a top winery.

Continue to Budapest, one of the most fascinating and historic cities in Central Europe. Stay at one of Europe’s most luxurious and beautiful hotels, and enjoy romantic views over the Danube River from your room. During private touring with an expert local guide, experience our favorite places and activities in the Hungarian capital. Browse local food and antiques markets. Drive through hidden backstreets to see beautiful buildings and learn the role they played in local history. Explore the Castle District, and take a tour of Buda’s most exclusive residential neighborhoods. Visit indoor and outdoor hot springs baths that remain central to daily life. Also take a tour of Parliament, a fascinating building essential to the city’s identity. Learn about Budapest’s rich Jewish history and tour important synagogues (active and in ruins) including one designed by Otto Wagner. Also, enjoy reservations at the city’s leading restaurants, many of which offer superb wine pairing options. One day, take an excursion to the Roman ruins in Aquincum and the craft shops and folk art museums in the artist village of Szentendre.

This tour can easily be extended to include popular destinations in the surrounding region, such as Vienna and Prague.
