Next, fly the short distance to Yogyakarta, a university town on the neighboring island of Java. Yogyakarta is renowned for its traditional arts, whitewashed villages, and proximity to Borobudur, the largest Buddhist monument in the world. Stay at the Amanjiwo, a favorite Aman resort, located in the lush hills overlooking Borobudur. With a private guide, visit Borobudur at dawn, the most magical time to visit. Another day, explore the fascinating Hindu temples of Prambanan, and visit the sultan’s palace in Yogyakarta. Other touring options include hiking in the forested hills, visiting galleries and studios of local artists and craftsmen, or taking a horse cart ride through rural villages.

Return to Bali for several days near Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali. With your private guide and driver, tour the studios of noted artists and craftsmen, visit the Monkey Forest, and explore Ubud’s most interesting museums and art galleries. Spend a day touring eastern Bali, the island’s most traditional region, visiting revered temples, royal palaces, and Balinese villages known for their high-quality weavings, silk and traditional architecture. During free time, enjoy Ubud’s many cafes and boutiques and take advantage of your resort’s spa and your private plunge pool; or book additional activities such as river rafting, mountain biking, or cooking classes.
