Ljubljana with Lake Bled & the Julian Alps, Salzburg & Salzkammergut, Munich
This private luxury tour features interesting cultural attractions in Ljubljana, Salzburg and Munich and the spectacular scenery of Slovenia and the Austrian Alps.
Begin in Ljubljana, the charming capital of Slovenia. During private touring, explore the Baroque and Art Nouveau architecture in the historic center; enjoy a boat ride on the Ljubljanica River, which flows through the city; visit Ljubljana Castle for panoramic views over the capital from a forested hilltop; tour the National Gallery of Slovenia; browse local markets and shops; and enjoy leisure time to relax at local cafes and restaurants.
One day, enjoy a private excursion to see the incredible stalactites and stalagmites inside Postojna Cave or the dramatic karst chambers inside Skocjan Cave, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perhaps also visit Lipica Stud Farm, where Lipizzaner horses have been bred for centuries, or Predjama Castle, a medieval fortress built into high stone cliffs. Alternatively, you might like to opt for an exciting river rafting experience through the beautiful canyon of the Kolpa river or enjoy a scenic hike through one of the virgin forests of the Kocevsko province.
Next, transfer to Austria. En route, enjoy a private excursion to the beautiful Julian Alps. At iconic Lake Bled, ride in a private pletna (flat-bottomed wooden boat) to a tiny island with a picturesque church and bell tower. Also see Bled Castle, which perches atop rocky cliffs overlooking the water. Also, perhaps enjoy a spectacular walk through Vintgar Gorge, or visit a beekeeper to learn about his work—a popular Slovenian pastime—and taste local honey.
Continue to Salzburg, a charming Baroque town famous for Mozart and The Sound of Music. Tour highlights such as the Cathedral, Mozart's birthplace, and the Mirabell Palace and Gardens. Walk down Getreidegasse, Salzburg's most famous shopping street, and visit select boutiques specializing in local products such as loden coats, Christmas decorations and Mozartkugel chocolate pralines. Tour markets, art museums and other historic highlights. Also, take a private excursion through the Salzkammergut, a stunning region of mountains and lakes in the Austrian Alps. Tour the salt mines, and also visit film sites from The Sound of Music.
Conclude in Munich, the dynamic capital of Bavaria. Explore the Old Town during a flexible private tour. See the famed Glockenspiel and watch its life-size mechanical figures dance and joust. Stroll interesting shopping streets and squares, and browse the Viktualienmarkt outdoor food market. Visit the Frauenkirche—the symbol of the city—and the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum, if desired. Other touring options include the Residenz (the former royal palace) or the Alte Pinakothek art museum. Upon request, Artisans of Leisure can arrange a private tour of the BMW factory and museum or of the Nymphenburg porcelain factory.
One day, take a private excursion into the beautiful Bavarian countryside to visit Neuschwanstein, the fairytale castle built in the 19th century for King Ludwig II. The model for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle, Neuschwanstein is a romantic vision of towers and turrets that rises out of a rocky hilltop and offers panoramic views of surrounding mountains, lakes and farmland. Also, if desired, visit nearby Hohenschwangau, the neo-Gothic castle where Ludwig spent his childhood, as well as the Wieskirche (Church in the Meadow), a UNESCO World Heritage Site with spectacular Rococo interiors.

We loved our Austria trip. My mom and sisters and I continue to talk about the cooking class you arranged at the private home in Vienna. It was a highlight of our trip.

I can’t speak highly enough of your organization and the people you work with on the ground. The attention to detail on our trip through Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria and Switzerland was perfect.
