Begin in Athens, Greece. During flexible cultural touring with your private guide, visit the iconic Acropolis, the spectacular Acropolis Museum, and the ancient Agora, where Socrates and Plato once strolled. One morning, explore the lively Athens food markets to learn about local ingredients and see stalls overflowing with the freshest produce and seafood. Then, enjoy a cooking class in a small, upscale restaurant with a Greek chef who creates some of the finest modern Greek cuisine in the city. The next morning, learn to make traditional Greek pies, including rolling the dough and filling it with ingredients such as spinach, feta, meat and herbs. In the afternoon, take a scenic excursion to Cape Sounion to see the Temple of Poseidon and watch the sun set into the Aegean Sea.

Continue to Crete, the largest of the Greek Islands and home of one of the world’s oldest and, some say, healthiest cuisines. Cretan recipes take advantage of local ingredients such as flavorful olives and olive oil, tender artichokes, fresh herbs, and seasonal fruit such as oranges, figs and grapes. One day, tour traditional mountain villags known for their crafts, Byzantine mosaics, and nearby ancient ruins. Another day, take an excursion to Spinalonga, an islet once occupied by ancient Greeks, Venetians, Turks and lepers. If time permits, also tour the Palace of Knossos, built by King Minos during the height of Crete’s great Minoan civilization, which lasted from 2,700 to 1450 BC. Continue to Turkey.
