Thailand is a constitutional monarchy and one of the only countries in Southeast Asia to have escaped European colonial domination. Thailand is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. The country has managed to maintain its cultural identity: saffron-robed monks walk around shimmering pagodas and swooped-roof temples; markets bulge with exotic flowers, fresh fish, vegetables and spices; and hotels beautifully incorporate traditional Thai design.
Our Thailand tours visit major destinations that offer luxury hotels and resorts, beautiful scenery, strong cultural traditions and, of course, wonderful Thai cuisine. Our tours include destinations in Thailand such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Ayutthaya, Damnoen Saduak, Hua Hin, Phuket, sailing or diving in the Phi Phi Islands, and other islands in Southern Thailand. We are also happy to arrange tours to more off-the-beaten-track destinations in Thailand, including the ruins in Sukhothai,
Si Satchanalai or Isan province.
Experience glistening wats (temples), Thai massage, morning monks' processions and chanting, markets overflowing with orchids and jasmine, upscale shops selling fine Asian antiques, ruins of ancient empires, elephant safaris, exclusive river rafting day trips through the Golden Triangle, hill tribes villages, and offerings placed at colorful spirit houses dotting the landscapes throughout Thailand.
Tours in Bangkok
Bangkok is a bustling city that is best explored by private, air conditioned vehicle. As an Artisans of Leisure traveler you'll have your own guide and driver each day. Journey by boat through Bangkok's narrow residential canals that branch off of the River of Kings. Travel along the waterways to more remote suburbs of Bangkok to experience the local daily life. Pass floating markets, spirit houses, tropical gardens, families cooking and doing laundry, monks accepting alms, and children swimming in the river. Bangkok is a city of contrasts. View magnificent teak homes alongside tin shacks. Explore its regal, jewel-like wats and palaces. Enjoy a Thai cooking class at the Oriental Bangkok, the Thai House Cooking School, or the Blue Elephant Cooking School. Sample a Thai massage - similar to yoga - at the acclaimed Oriental Spa or the Thai Massage School based in Wat Po. Visit local markets selling Thai crafts, spices, produce, fish, and an unbelievable array of flowers. Watch monks chanting at local temples. Visit Bangkok's National Museum, or smaller museums such as the Prasart Museum, Jim Thompson House, or have us arrange a tour of Bangkok's premier art galleries, several housed in traditional Thai buildings. Visit Bangkok's most famous temples: Wat Arun (the Temple of Dawn) and Wat Phra Kaeo. Dine at romantic restaurants overlooking lotus-filled ponds and featuring the best of modern Thai design. Take a day tour to ancient ruins in Ayutthaya, visit a little visited morning market in the countryside, or spend a few days in Hua Hin, home of the royal family and famous for its luxury health and spa retreats, including Chiva Som.
Preferred luxury hotels in Bangkok include the Oriental Bangkok, the Sukhothai, Four Seasons Bangkok, and the Peninsula Bangkok.
Tours in Phuket and Koh Samui
For travelers hoping to experience Thailand's beautiful, secluded beaches and days of luxury, head to Phuket or Koh Samui and stay at Thailand's best luxury beach resorts, where Thai-style pavilions and expansive villas overlook the sea and picturesque beaches. Spend days enjoying spa treatments, taking excursions into the islands' lush interiors, dining at superb Thai restaurants and chartering luxury yachts out to islands for swimming, snorkeling, and diving in the Phi Phi Islands and Pha Nga Bay.
The Amanpuri is our preferred luxury resort in Phuket. The Four Seasons is our preferred resort on Koh Samui. On Krabi, we recommend the Rayavadee Resort
Tours in Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is the cultural center of northern Thailand. While you may not want to ever leave your luxury resort, we do recommend spending some time exploring Chiang Mai and the surrounding countryside. Tour Old Town's temples, such as Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Chet Yot and Wat Phra Singh. We take our travelers to Chiang Mai's most upscale craft shops where celadon, silver, textiles, lacquerware and traditional umbrellas are made. Visit Chiang Mai's famed night market. We also arrange a wonderful day tour out of Chiang Mai. During this tour, visit a region rarely visited on day tours from Chiang Mai. Trek to a local hilltribe village, take an elephant ride, and enjoy a gourmet picnic while floating on a Thai bamboo raft. Six main hill tribe groups live in northern Thailand, each with distinct customs, rituals and clothing. The Lahu, Akha and Lisu migrated into Thailand from Yunnan (southwest China) via Burma. The Hmong and Mien (or Yao) came from south central China via Laos, and the Karen tribe is believed to have originated in southeast Tibet. Chiang Mai is also an excellent destination for travelers or families seeking more active pursuits such as scenic treks, mountain bike excursions, waterfall rappelling, or jungle survival courses. Our travelers visiting Chiang Mai also visit the region's most important temple, Doi Suthep, located atop a mountain overlooking the city and hills. During free time, have us book golfing excursions, a Thai cooking class, or spa treatments.
Recommended luxury resorts in Chiang Mai include the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai and the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Devi.
Tours in the Golden Triangle
We highly recommend spending several days in Thailand's Golden Triangle, visiting hill tribe villages, the Hall of Opium Museum, remote temples, riding a boat on the Mekong and learning to train elephants. Walk along nature trails near your resort, and dine by candlelight overlooking the Golden Triangle: Burma, Laos, and Thailand.
The most recommended luxury hotels in the Golden Triangle are the Four Seasons Tented Camp and the Anantara Resort and Spa.
All of our Thailand tours include private touring with expert, sophisticated guides, Asia's best luxury hotels and resorts, and comprehensive touring that reveals Thailand's rich history, cuisine, Buddhist culture, stunning scenery, and artistic traditions.
