Bangkok, Thimphu, Punakha, Paro, Chiang Mai
This ultra-luxurious private tour features two of the world's most fascinating cultural destinations: Bhutan and Thailand. With your own private guides and drivers in each location, explore dynamic cities, spectacular landscapes, impressive temples and monasteries, interesting markets, delicious food, and rich cultural traditions. Accommodation is at some of the world's most luxurious hotels.
Begin with introductory touring in Bangkok. Enjoy a fascinating, private long-tail boat tour through Bangkok's canals. Visit the most important temples. Learn about Buddhist practices and influences on daily life. Hear monks chanting at a morning ceremony. Explore colorful markets selling textiles, flowers, food and crafts. When not sightseeing, enjoy time at the world’s leading spa, swim, play tennis, shop for exquisite Thai silks and art work, and dine on some of Southeast Asia’s best cuisine.
Continue to Thimphu, Bhutan's charming capital. Enjoy comprehensive touring of Thimphu’s many cultural attractions and important Buddhist highlights. Meet local people, learn about local traditions, explore a bustling market, and visit various small museums specializing in textiles, folk heritage, and traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts. Other activities can be incorporated based on your interests, such as a private day hike to rural villages and monasteries, a private Bhutanese cooking lesson at a local home, a meeting with a Bhutanese astrologer, or a private meditation session with monks.
Drive through the mountains, passing the 108 stupas, to Punakha, the ancient winter capital located in a sub-tropical valley where rhododendron and magnolia bloom and orange and banana trees flourish. Relax at your luxurious farmhouse-style lodge, set among rice terraces, chili and cabbage fields and traditional Bhutanese farmhouses. Enjoy a peaceful walk through rural farming villages, receive a blessing from a monk, opt to hike up a mountain for beautiful panoramic views of the valley, and visit the stunning Punakha Dzong.
Continue to Paro, a resort town. Visit the National Museum, explore the surrounding valleys, and visit Tiger's Nest, a breathtaking monastery clinging to a cliff that is one of the most important icons of Bhutan. Other options include shopping for crafts and Himalayan and Buddhist items, a private archery lesson, a biking excursion, or simply relaxing and enjoying traditional Bhutanese spa treatments.
Please let us know your interests so we can tailor the touring accordingly. Upon request, we can incorporate activities in Bhutan such as overnight treks, meetings with local specialists, farm visits, monastery visits, soft-adventure activities (hiking, biking, archery rafting, fly-fishing or golf), shopping, cooking classes, blessings and meditations led by monks, and more.
Return to Thailand and spend several days in rural Chiang Mai in northern Thailand at one of Asia’s most luxurious and atmospheric resorts, surrounded by mountains and lush fields of terraced rice paddies. Browse crafts districts specializing in celadon ceramics, silver, teak furniture, paper umbrellas, and beautiful silk weavings. Visit revered mountaintop temples, the royal family’s Winter Palace, an elephant camp, and local hill tribe villages. Also enjoy a cooking class at the resort’s renowned cooking school. A day will be at leisure to enjoy the resort's spa, golf, or pool. Additional cultural excursions are also available.
