Discover Switzerland: A Glacier Express Tour

(10 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Lausanne, Zermatt, Andermatt, St. Moritz

This private Switzerland tour features many of the cultural and scenic highlights of Switzerland, including first-class tickets on the Glacier Express train from Zermatt to St. Moritz, and accommodation at several of the best luxury resorts in Switzerland.

Begin in Geneva, a historic lakeside city, with introductory private touring of the highlights of the Old Town and interesting local museums. Continue to Lausanne and the beautiful Lake Geneva region for a stay at the elegant Beau-Rivage Palace—one of the best luxury hotels in Switzerland—among lush parkland on the shore of the lake.

One day, take a private excursion in the surrounding region to visit Chateau de Chillon, Switzerland’s most interesting castle, and the Lavaux wine region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of 800-year-old terraced vineyards that skirt the edge of Lake Geneva and offer dramatic views of the Alps. Artisans of Leisure will arrange for you to enjoy exclusive activities such as private wine tasting and a private chocolate making experience at a local confectioner. Another day, enjoy a private excursion to Gruyeres, an atmospheric medieval hill town. Artisans of Leisure will arrange activities such as a tour of a cheese-making workshop and tasting of local cheeses, including the region’s renowned Gruyere cheese. Also, enjoy reservations for a fondue or raclette lunch at one of our favorite local restaurants. Other options include touring a renowned chocolate factory; visiting Chaplin’s World, the former house and estate of Charlie Chaplin; exploring the Olympic Museum or the historic center of Lausanne; or spending time at the hotel’s excellent spa, restaurants and leisure facilities.

Continue to Zermatt, home of the Matterhorn, one of the most iconic mountains in the world. Stay at a luxurious hotel, tour the historic wooden buildings in the town center, and visit the Matterhorn Museum to learn about the traditional local lifestyle and the human drama surrounding the majestic mountain that looms over the region. Then, take a cog railway up to Gornergrat, the best place to take in views of the Matterhorn, as well as the glaciers, mountain valleys and villages below. Another day, enjoy privately guided touring and hiking in the hills or valleys around Zermatt or opt for a private via ferrata excursion through beautiful Gorner Gorge, including rappelling, climbing and zip lining. Artisans of Leisure will also arrange lunch reservations at a restaurant with scenic views.

Next, enjoy first-class seats on the renowned Glacier Express train line from Zermatt to Andermatt, admiring views of the Alps along the way. Stay one night in the Chedi Andermatt, a luxurious resort surrounded by high peaks. The following day, continue by Glacier Express to St. Moritz on the scenic route over spectacular Oberalp Pass, through the Ruinaulta (Rhine Gorge) and across the unforgettable stone viaducts of the Albula line, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed train route.

In St. Moritz, an upscale resort town among the beautiful mountains and lakes of eastern Switzerland, stay at legendary Badrutt’s Palace, one of the most luxurious and distinctive hotels in Switzerland. During private touring, visit a traditional wood-fired cheese-making workshop, and enjoy cable car rides and flexible guided hiking for spectacular and unforgettable views of mountains, glaciers and lakes in this extraordinary part of the Swiss Alps.

This tour can be extended to include additional touring in Switzerland or Italy.
