Best of Iceland

(9 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Reykjavik & Langjokull Glacier, Golden Circle, South Iceland, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

This unforgettable private Iceland tour features incredible experiences such as venturing inside a glacier, cruising on a glacial lagoon, snorkeling in a tectonic fissure, walking on a glacier, soaking in hot springs, seeing waterfalls, geysers, volcanoes, as well as private touring of the top scenic and cultural highlights around Reykjavik, the Golden Circle and South Iceland.

Enjoy insider touring of the highlights of Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. Tour cultural highlights such as the National Museum of Iceland or Reykjavik Art Museum to gain further insight into Iceland’s history and contemporary culture. See the iconic architecture of Hallgrimskirkja Church. Artisans of Leisure will also arrange a private, behind-the-scenes tour of Harpa, the concert hall designed in conjunction with renowned artist Olafur Eliasson. Also explore the colorful backstreets of the town, and walk along the harbor. If desired, browse top boutiques for Icelandic crafts such as hand-knit sweaters and blankets. Other options include visiting the world-renowned Blue Lagoon hot springs, Arbaer Open Air Museum, Viking Village or the Imagine Peace Tower. Artisans of Leisure can also arrange tickets to performances and reservations at top restaurants, including Perlan, which has incredible views over the city.

One day, enjoy the “Into the Glacier” tour of Langjokull Glacier, including venturing into a tunnel in the blue ice. During private touring, also see Hraunfossar Waterfall, which streams through a lava field.

Next, transfer to beautiful South Iceland with your private driver-guide. En route, tour some of Iceland’s most important and impressive natural features in the Golden Circle. Visit Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the Althing (Icelandic assembly) met for over 850 years in a spectacular rift valley formed by drifting tectonic plates. Also, visit a family farm where produce is grown year-round in greenhouses heated by geothermal energy. If desired, opt to take a dip in the Secret Lagoon, a unique natural hot spring. Upon request, Artisans of Leisure can arrange ATV excursions in the region. In Geysir, watch as Strokkur Geyser erupts, and see Gullfoss, a waterfall that plunges into a gorge. Continue to your South Iceland hotel, which is in an ideal location for watching the aurora borealis (Northern Lights) in the winter. During your stay, enjoy a private excursion to Thorsmork, a beautiful region of rugged peaks and glacial river valleys for hiking or taking a four-wheel drive tour.

Next, transfer along the southern coast of Iceland to the stunning Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. En route, see waterfalls, black sand beaches, sea stacks and the beautiful landscapes of Skaftafell in the southern edge of Vatnajokull National Park. Also, cruise among floating chunks of glacial ice on Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon.

Return along the southern coast. Stop to explore Fjadrargljufur Canyon, and take an exhilarating walk on Solheimajokull Glacier. Enjoy flexible touring and activities in the region. Options include a snorkeling tour between tectonic plates in the spectacular Silfra fissure, soaking in the lakeside hot springs of Laugarvatn Fontana, sampling baked goods from a geothermal bakery, riding Icelandic horses in the countryside or, in the summer, enjoying a private excursion to Landmannalaugar, an area of geothermal hot springs and colorful rhyolite mountains in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve.

Throughout the tour, accommodation is at Iceland’s best hotels, and touring is with one of Iceland’s top driver-guides.

Upon request, Artisans of Leisure can arrange additional activities such as ATV rides, whale watching or puffin excursions (season permitting), horseback riding, visits to ice caves, culinary touring and Icelandic cooking classes, meeting with Icelandic designers, hiking, mountain biking, an excursion into a volcano, tours of noted architecture sites and more.
