Experience the most interesting destinations in the Netherlands on this private luxury tour, which includes private cultural touring, uniquely Dutch experiences and accommodation at the country’s best hotels.

Begin in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands and one of the most charming cities in Europe. During private, insider-led touring, enjoy a private cruise through Amsterdam’s famous canals; tour world-renowned museums such as the Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House and Van Gogh Museum; and visit the most interesting neighborhoods to see our favorite markets, courtyard gardens, gabled houses, canals, bridges and backstreets. Also tour historic houses that evoke the Dutch Golden Age, such as Museum Van Loon, the home of a co-founder of the Dutch East India Company. Other options include visiting the Dutch Resistance Museum and other Jewish sites, seeing interesting contemporary architecture, shopping for antiques, and dining on culinary treats such as rijsttafel (“rice table”), an Indonesian-influenced meal of many small dishes that’s served in specialty restaurants throughout Amsterdam.

Visit the early morning Aalsmeer flower auction to watch the bustling activity on the market floor as beautiful flowers are prepared to be shipped all over the world. Also visit highlights such as Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum filled with windmills and traditional architecture. Explore the museum’s village-like atmosphere, visit a cheese shop, watch wooden clogs being made, and perhaps sample traditional Dutch baked goods. If your timing is right, we can also arrange a visit to the beautiful gardens of the Keukenhof (mid-March to mid-May) to stroll among thousands of colorful tulips, hyacinths and other flowers.

One day, visit The Hague to see renowned art museums and palaces, then continue to Delft, where Johannes Vermeer once lived, to tour the historic center and visit Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles (Royal Delft) for a private tour and, if desired, a private Delft Blue painting workshop.

In the Gelderland countryside, tour the Kroller-Muller Museum—an acclaimed art institution in the middle of a national park—and Paleis Het Loo, a 17th-century royal palace with extensive formal gardens.

Next, transfer to Maastricht, stopping en route to visit the lively university town of Utrecht. Walk along the unusual canals, browse outdoor markets, and tour landmarks such as the Domkerk cathedral and Rietveld Schroder House, a Modernist masterpiece and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also tour the fairy-tale Castle de Haar, which has towers, a moat and expansive grounds.

In Maastricht, a beautiful city dating from Roman times, tour the ancient monuments, medieval backstreets, market squares and ramparts. Visit the Basilica of Saint Servatius, a popular pilgrimage church, and the fascinating caves of Sint-Pietersberg, a centuries-old stone quarry. Additional options include touring the Bonnefanten Museum, tasting Dutch wine at a nearby wine estate, and visiting a historic castle.

Return to Amsterdam for a final night. En route, stop in the modern port city of Rotterdam to tour art and design galleries, modern architecture such as the landmark Cube Houses, and important museums. Also visit the Pilgrim Fathers Church in the old harbor area of Delfshaven, where the Pilgrims sailed from in 1620 en route to America.

Artisans of Leisure can also arrange touring in Leiden and Haarlem, private excursions to cheese-producing towns like Edam or Gouda, as well as special interest activities such as attending a performance at the Concertgebouw, biking through the city or countryside, and touring museums with an art expert.

This tour can easily be extended to include destinations in Belgium, Germany, France and other countries.
