Bangkok, Thimphu, Punakha, Paro, Chiang Mai

This ultra-luxurious private tour features two of the world's most fascinating cultural destinations: Bhutan and Thailand. With your own private guides and drivers in each location, explore dynamic cities, spectacular landscapes, impressive temples and monasteries, interesting markets, delicious food, and rich cultural traditions. Accommodation is at some of the world's most luxurious hotels.

Begin with introductory touring in Bangkok. Enjoy a fascinating, private long-tail boat tour through Bangkok's canals. Visit the most important temples. Learn about Buddhist practices and influences on daily life. Hear monks chanting at a morning ceremony. Explore colorful markets selling textiles, flowers, food and crafts. When not sightseeing, enjoy time at the world’s leading spa, swim, play tennis, shop for exquisite Thai silks and art work, and dine on some of Southeast Asia’s best cuisine.

Continue to Thimphu, Bhutan's charming capital. Thimphu is renowned for its high quality textiles and handicrafts. If your timing is right, explore the weekend market. Also opt to visit the Trashi Chhoe Dzong, National Textile Museum, Folk Heritage Museum, School of Traditional Arts, National Memorial Chorten (stupa), National Library or the Philatelic Center (Bhutan creates some of the world's most innovatively designed stamps).

Drive through the mountains, passing the 108 stupas, to Punakha, the ancient winter capital, located in a sub-tropical area where rhododendron and magnolia bloom and orange and banana trees flourish. Relax at your resort, set among rice terraces, chili and cabbage fields and traditional Bhutanese farmhouses. Also enjoy some gentle hikes and cultural touring with your private guide.

Continue to Paro, a resort valley town nestled between the Himalayas. With your own private guide and driver, explore the town, the National Museum, the surrounding verdant valleys, and Tiger's Nest Monastery.  If desired, perhaps have us arrange for a cooking class or meal at a private local home. Other options include spa treatments, visits to local farm houses and private monasteries, meditations led by monks, and meals with Bhutanese officials to learn about the government of this fascinating country. Optional soft-adventure activities include trekking, biking, rafting, fly-fishing, archery lessons and more.

Return to Thailand and spend several days in rural Chiang Mai in northern Thailand at one of Asia’s most luxurious and atmospheric resorts, surrounded by mountains and lush fields of terraced rice paddies. Browse crafts districts specializing in celadon ceramics, silver, teak furniture, paper umbrellas, and beautiful silk weavings. Visit revered mountaintop temples, the royal family’s Winter Palace, an elephant camp, and local hill tribe villages. Also enjoy a cooking class at the resort’s renowned cooking school. A day will be at leisure to enjoy the resort's spa, golf, or pool. Additional cultural excursions are also available.
