Southern Australia is known for outstanding food and wine, beautiful beaches, heritage architecture, a creative music and arts scene and abundant wildlife. This tour highlights the main attractions.
Begin in lively Melbourne and enjoy flexible private touring of the city’s highlights, including the chic South Yarra and Southgate neighborhoods, the Victorian Arts Centre, famed sporting precincts such as the Melbourne Cricket Club, historic Cooks Cottage in the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens, Federation Square and the Queen Victoria Markets—packed with exotic foods, clothing and crafts. Also enjoy a full-day private excursion along the Great Ocean Road.
From there, travel to Adelaide, known for its gardens, antique shops, heritage architecture and many acclaimed restaurants. Tour the Central Market, the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Tandanya Aboriginal Cultural Institute and the superb National Wine Centre of Australia. Spend a day exploring the Barossa Valley—perhaps Australia’s premier wine region—visiting small wineries, sampling local cheeses and strolling through historic towns. Spend two nights on Kangaroo Island to see spectacular rock formations, beautiful beaches and abundant wildlife in their natural habitat, including kangaroos, koalas, sea lions, echidnas, goannas, platypuses, rare birds and even whales.
Next, fly to Tasmania. Experience dramatic mountain peaks, waterfalls, native wildlife, fields of lavender and small Victorian towns becoming increasingly known for their production of Tasmanian wines, cheeses, honey and other culinary specialties. Stay at a lodge in Freycinet National Park, surrounded by natural wonders including Mole Creek, an area renowned for its
caves and sinkholes. During a private tour, visit local attractions such as
vineyards and Wineglass Bay to enjoy coastal walks and wildlife spotting. Also
enjoy a half-day of guided fly-fishing.
