Art & Culinary Tour of Sicily

(13 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Palermo, Monreale, Segesta, Erice, Trapani, Marsala, Sciacca, Piazza Armerina, Agrigento, Ragusa, Noto, Modica, Syracuse, Taormina

This private luxury tour of Sicily focuses on the best of the island’s outstanding art, culture and cuisine.

Begin in Palermo, one of Italy’s great art and culinary cities. Spend two nights in an Art Nouveau palace hotel surrounded by fragrant gardens on a cliff overlooking the sea. During private touring, explore interesting neighborhoods, markets, museums and favorite culinary spots. Learn to prepare classic Sicilian specialties during a private cooking class. Also visit the stunning Cathedral of Monreale, a masterpiece of Arab, Norman and Byzantine art.

Next, transfer to Mazara del Vallo for two nights. En route, tour the highlights of northwestern Sicily. Visit Segesta to see the well-preserved Doric temple and the ancient theater in a bucolic hillside setting. Tour Erice, a medieval hilltop village that’s filled with cobblestone streets, flowering vines and the aroma of almond pastries, a local specialty. See the Trapani Salt Pans, where salt is collected using ancient techniques, and enjoy a private tasting at a local Marsala winery. One day, take a private excursion to a local estate to enjoy a farm tour, olive oil tasting, cooking class and lunch.

Continue to Sciacca and the Verdura Golf & Spa Resort, a luxurious resort on the Mediterranean, for three nights. Visit the local village, known for its ceramics and coral studios, and enjoy the resort's beach, pool, spa, golf courses and excellent restaurants. One day, take a private excursion to ancient Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, an outstanding collection of Hellenistic ruins and early Christian sites that’s one of the most significant archaeological sites in Sicily and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

En route to Ragusa, visit Piazza Armerina to see another UNESCO site, Villa Romana del Casale, an ancient Roman villa with exquisite mosaics covering the floors. Stay two nights in a medieval fortification converted into a luxury hotel outside Ragusa. Tour the Baroque architecture and atmospheric backstreets of Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Noto, which, with Catania and other nearby towns, form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also, sample the famous chocolate of Modica and gelato in Noto, and visit a local winery specializing in Cerasuolo di Vittoria, a prized Sicilian red wine.

Next, stay one night in Syracuse, one of the most powerful cities of the ancient world. Tour highlights such as the Greek theater, Roman amphitheater, the cave known as the Ear of Dionysius, and the historic center of the island of Ortygia.

The tour concludes in Taormina. Enjoy free time to explore Taormina's Greek theater, beautiful gardens, numerous shops, and the hotel's facilities and spectacular views of the Bay of Naxos and Mount Etna.
