Introduction to Salta

(5 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Salta City, Colome, Cafayate

On this private luxury tour, explore the highlights of wonderful but little-known Salta, a diverse province bordering the Andes in Northwest Argentina. Stay at luxury resort hotels built in the finest regional style, and enjoy private touring of local wineries, stunning landscapes, pre-Columbian ruins, Spanish-colonial architecture and contemporary art.

With your private local guide, tour the historic and neo-colonial architecture of Salta City, the provincial capital. Browse for locally produced crafts and see the haunting exhibition in the Museum of High Altitude Archaeology. Next, pass through historic villages and rich farmland in the verdant Lerma Valley and see colonial-era churches among the rugged mountains and desert of the beautiful Calchaquies Valley en route to Colome. Stay at Estancia Colome, an upscale wine estate hotel with a contemporary art museum, and sample wine at one of the oldest (and highest) wineries in Argentina. Continue to Cafayate, a small town surrounded by vineyards at the base of the Andes. Stay at Patios de Cafayate, a luxurious historic finca and wine estate, sample wine at exclusive local wineries, and tour pre-Columbian ruins in Quilmes, one of the best-preserved archeological sites in Argentina. Finally, explore the brightly colored mountains and rock formations in the beautiful desert regions of the Quebrada de las Conchas en route back to Salta City. Throughout the tour, enjoy ample opportunities to dine on local specialties such as humitas, locro, empanadas and locally made goat cheese.
