Experience Our Chile

Our customized, private insider tours of Chile feature our favorite places and experiences in the country.

Spectacular landscapes...

Experience the best of Chile’s incredible and diverse landscapes: walk barefoot on red sand dunes and see geysers in the Atacama Desert in the far north, hike or horseback ride among the glaciers and spiky peaks of Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, or explore history among the green hills of a moai (stone head) quarry on Easter Island.

Unique heritage site...

The moai overlooking the pink sand and clear turquoise water of Anakena Beach on Easter Island.

For architecture fans...

Consider a stay at the luxurious Tierra Chiloe hotel.

Iconic image...

The Moai of Easter Island (Rapa Nui).

Favorite hotel experience...

Waking up at Explora Patagonia, opening the window shades and watching the sunrise illuminate the spectacular, glacier-carved peaks of Torres del Paine National Park.

For wine lovers...

Have us arrange a day of private wine touring in the Colchagua Valley or Casablanca Valley. We can also arrange a visit to a stylish wine bar in Santiago that stocks over 300 Chilean labels.

Breathtaking moment...

Seeing the sun set over the salt flats of the Salar de Atacama: striking white punctuated by pink flamingoes.

Incredible wildlife...

An extraordinary variety of wildlife inhabit Chile’s diverse ecosystems, including flamingos and alpacas in the Atacama Desert; pumas, guanacos, rheas and condors in Patagonia; and penguins and seals on Chiloe.

Pure poetry...

Artisans of Leisure can arrange expert-led tours of the houses that celebrated Chilean poet Pablo Neruda designed for himself in Valparaiso, Santiago and Isla Negra.

If you love art...

Valparaiso has a rich history of street art. See some of the seaside city’s most famous murals while touring with one of our art experts.

Serious stargazing...

The Atacama Desert has some of the clearest skies in the world. Looking at Saturn through observatory telescopes in the desert is an awe-inspiring sight.

Did you know...

That a large number of Germans settled in Chile in the 19th century, influencing the local cuisine? The chocolate, kuchen (fruit tarts), deli meats and sausages are all excellent.

Indigenous design...

The Roman Catholic church on Easter Island incorporates local design elements into its architecture and decor. At Sunday Mass, hymns are sung in the Rapa Nui language.

Favorite market...

Housed in a 19th-century iron building, the Mercado Central in Santiago is filled with vendors selling all types of fresh produce and seafood. The many restaurants inside the market make it a good option for having lunch with the locals.

Local spirit...

The pisco sour is a point of pride with Chileans, who insist they (not the Peruvians) created this popular cocktail based on locally distilled pisco (brandy).

Regional cuisine...

Curanto, a specialty of Chiloe, is a kind of clambake made by putting heated stones in a hole in the ground, piling in mussels, clams, pork, sausage, chicken, potatoes and other ingredients, and then covering the whole thing with huge Chilean rhubarb leaves and dirt to let it cook for a while.

Local festivities...

Visiting Easter Island during the annual Tapati Rapa Nui festival, which celebrates local Rapa Nui culture. Artisans of Leisure can arrange for visits to festival events, parades, music performances and competitions, such as the haka pei, a race on banana plant sleds down the side of a volcano.

Must buy...

Wine (we can help ship it home), Mapuche silver, Pomaire pottery, alpaca clothing, cow-hide rugs and Atacameno ceramics.
